Dada Manifesto
“Dada was an artistic movement that self-consciously styled itself as "anti-art" or art that defies conventional notions of artistic beauty and correctness.”
I believe Dadaist saw the need to break away from a picture perfect society; art as the ability to play an influential role in societies by capturing only the good and eliminating the bad/ ugly. Anti- art for Dadaists meant a true representation of reality.
The author wrote this quote to place emphasis on how Dadaist rebelled against covering up the ugliness of society. Art wasn’t a true representation of society’s reality. Dadaists were outraged against the senseless war of the times and the type of art being portrayed. I choose this quote because I can relate to how misleading an art piece can be its like false advertising; you choose a vacation destination based on the beautiful pictures you see, only to find upon arrival the place may be completely run down. I tend to agree with them on being anti-art as Dadaists saw art like many persons are today pretentious and decided to paint things not as picture perfect but as they are. On the other hand however, not every depiction needs to be corrected as true beauty may be found in societies today as well as it may have back then.
